Question 9

How do I know if my roof needs repair or replacement?

Accepted Answer

A roof may only need repair when the damage is limited and the rest of the roof is still in good condition. Replacement may make more sense when there is widespread damage, recurring problems, or significant age and wear. ARC Builds KC will inspect the roof, explain what we find, and recommend the option that fits its condition.

Question 10

What are signs that I should have my roof inspected?

Accepted Answer

Common signs that your roof should be inspected include missing or damaged shingles, recurring leaks, water stains inside the home, excessive shingle granules, visible roof damage, or recent hail and high winds. Some storm damage can be difficult to see from the ground, so an inspection may still be worthwhile even when the roof looks fine from below.

Question 11

What should I do if I think a storm damaged my roof?

Accepted Answer

If you think a storm damaged your roof, start by having it inspected. ARC Builds KC can look for visible damage, document what we find, and explain whether the roof needs repair, replacement, or no immediate work.

Question 12

Do I need to file an insurance claim before calling a roofer?

Accepted Answer

No. You can have the roof inspected before deciding whether to file an insurance claim. Your insurance company determines what is covered under your policy, while ARC Builds KC can document the roof’s condition and explain what work may be needed.

Question 13

Can ARC Builds KC help with a storm-damage insurance claim?

Accepted Answer

Yes. ARC Builds KC can inspect the roof, document visible storm damage, provide a clear repair or replacement scope, and coordinate with your insurance adjuster when needed. Your insurance company makes the final decision about what your policy covers.

Question 14

How long does a roof replacement usually take?

Accepted Answer

Most residential roof replacements take one to two days. The exact timeline depends on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and whether additional repairs are discovered once the old roofing is removed.

Question 15

What roofing materials and brands does ARC Builds KC install?

Accepted Answer

ARC Builds KC primarily installs asphalt shingle roofing from trusted manufacturers including GAF, TAMKO, and CertainTeed. We can also discuss metal roofing when it makes sense for the home and project. We’ll walk you through styles, colors, materials, and manufacturer warranty options so you can choose what works best for your home.

Question 16

What warranty comes with a new roof?

Accepted Answer

ARC Builds KC provides a 5-year workmanship warranty on roofing installation. Roofing materials may also include manufacturer warranties, including limited lifetime options on certain products. The exact manufacturer warranty depends on the brand and product selected, and we’ll explain the applicable coverage before the project is completed.

Question 17

How do you protect my property during a roof replacement?

Accepted Answer

We protect landscaping, patios, siding, windows, and other areas around the home before and during the roof replacement. We keep the jobsite as organized as possible, clean up roofing debris when the work is finished, and inspect the property before we consider the project complete.

Question 18

What can be included in a kitchen remodel?

Accepted Answer

A kitchen remodel can include cabinets, countertops, flooring, lighting, backsplashes, storage improvements, appliance changes, and layout updates. The exact scope depends on what is not working in the current kitchen and what you want the finished space to do better.

Question 19

Can you change the layout of my kitchen?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in many kitchens the layout can be changed. That may include moving cabinets or appliances, changing work areas, or making larger changes involving walls, plumbing, or electrical. ARC Builds KC will evaluate the existing space and explain which layout changes are practical for the home, budget, and project goals.

Question 20

How long does a kitchen remodel take?

Accepted Answer

Kitchen remodeling timelines vary based on the size and scope of the project, layout changes, material selections, and product availability. Once the scope is defined, ARC Builds KC can give you a clearer project schedule and explain what to expect during construction.

Question 21

Do I need to choose all of my kitchen materials before scheduling an estimate?

Accepted Answer

No. You do not need to have every cabinet, countertop, fixture, or finish selected before scheduling an estimate. It helps to have a general idea of the look, function, and priorities you want, and the specific selections can be worked through as the project scope becomes clearer.

Question 22

Can I stay in my home during a kitchen remodel?

Accepted Answer

Often, yes. Most homeowners can stay in the home during a kitchen remodel, but the kitchen may be unusable for parts of the project. You should also expect some noise, dust, and construction activity. ARC Builds KC will explain the project sequence and access considerations before work begins so you can plan around the disruption.

Question 23

What can be included in a bathroom remodel?

Accepted Answer

A bathroom remodel can include showers, tubs, vanities, flooring, tile, lighting, storage, fixtures, and layout improvements. The exact scope depends on the condition of the existing bathroom and what you want to improve about how the space looks, functions, and handles moisture.

Question 24

Can I replace my bathtub with a walk-in shower?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in many bathrooms a bathtub can be replaced with a walk-in shower. Whether a tub-to-shower conversion makes sense depends on the existing layout, plumbing, available space, and how you want to use the bathroom. ARC Builds KC will evaluate the space during the onsite estimate and explain the options that make sense for your home.

Question 25

How important is waterproofing in a bathroom remodel?

Accepted Answer

Waterproofing is very important in a bathroom remodel, especially around showers, tubs, tile, and other wet areas. Proper preparation and waterproofing help prevent moisture from reaching the structure behind the finished surfaces, reducing the risk of water damage and helping the remodel last longer.

Question 26

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

Accepted Answer

The timeline for a bathroom remodel depends on the size and scope of the project, the amount of demolition, layout or plumbing changes, material selections, and product availability. Once ARC Builds KC has evaluated the bathroom and defined the scope of work, we’ll provide a clearer project timeline and explain what to expect during construction.

Question 27

Can I use the bathroom while it’s being remodeled?

Accepted Answer

During a full bathroom remodel, you should expect the bathroom to be unavailable for significant portions of the project. If it’s the only bathroom in your home, let ARC Builds KC know during the planning process so we can discuss the project sequence and what to expect before work begins.

Question 28

How do I know whether my deck should be repaired or replaced?

Accepted Answer

Whether a deck should be repaired or replaced depends on the condition of the entire structure, not just the deck boards. Localized damage may be repairable, while widespread rot, unstable framing, structural problems, or significant deterioration may make replacement the better option. ARC Builds KC will evaluate the existing deck during the onsite estimate and explain which approach makes sense based on its condition.

Question 29

Should I choose wood or composite decking?

Accepted Answer

Both wood and composite decking can be good choices. Wood offers a traditional look and may have a lower upfront material cost, while composite decking generally requires less ongoing maintenance and does not need the same routine staining or sealing as wood. The right choice depends on your budget, the look you want, and how much maintenance you want to handle over time.

Question 30

Can you replace the deck boards and keep the existing structure?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in some cases the deck boards can be replaced while keeping the existing structure. The framing, footings, ledger, and other structural components need to be in good condition and suitable for the new decking. ARC Builds KC will evaluate the existing structure during the onsite estimate before recommending whether replacing just the deck boards is a good option.

Question 31

Can ARC Builds KC build a custom deck for my yard?

Accepted Answer

Yes. ARC Builds KC can build a custom deck designed around your home, yard, and how you want to use the outdoor space. During the onsite estimate, we’ll consider factors such as deck size, shape, stairs, access, layout, and how the deck connects with your home and yard before developing the project scope.

Question 32

How long does it take to build a deck?

Accepted Answer

The time it takes to build a deck depends on the size and complexity of the project, site conditions, material selections and availability, weather, and any permitting or other requirements that need to be addressed before construction. Once ARC Builds KC has evaluated the property and defined the project scope, we’ll provide a clearer timeline for the work.

Question 33

What should I consider before adding a patio?

Accepted Answer

Before adding a patio, think about how you want to use the space and how it should connect with your home and yard. Furniture, grilling, entertaining, walkways, sun and shade, yard access, drainage, and future outdoor features can all affect the best location, size, and layout for the patio.

Question 34

How do I choose the right size and layout for a patio?

Accepted Answer

The right patio size and layout depend on how you plan to use the space, what needs to fit comfortably, and how people will move between the patio, home, and yard. A patio designed for a small table has different space requirements than one with multiple seating areas, larger gatherings, or outdoor cooking. ARC Builds KC will evaluate the yard during the onsite estimate and help plan the patio around how you want to use it.

Question 35

Does yard drainage matter when planning a patio?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Proper drainage is an important part of planning a patio because water needs to move away from the home and the finished outdoor space. Existing yard slope, drainage patterns, surrounding landscaping, and how water moves across the property should be considered before the patio location and layout are finalized.

Question 36

Can a new patio work with my existing deck or outdoor space?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in many cases a new patio can be designed to work with an existing deck or other outdoor features. The layout can take into account decks, doors, walkways, landscaping, yard access, and how people move between the home and outdoor spaces. ARC Builds KC will evaluate the existing space during the onsite estimate and plan the patio so it works naturally with the home and yard.

Question 37

How long does a patio project take?

Accepted Answer

The timeline for a patio project depends on the size and design, site preparation, material selections and availability, yard access, drainage considerations, and weather conditions. Once ARC Builds KC has evaluated the property and defined the project scope, we’ll provide a clearer timeline for the work.

Question 38

How do I know whether my siding needs repair or replacement?

Accepted Answer

Whether siding should be repaired or replaced depends on the extent and condition of the damage. Localized damage may only require repair, while widespread cracking, warping, loose or deteriorated siding, recurring moisture problems, or significant age-related wear may make replacement the better option. ARC Builds KC will evaluate the siding during the onsite estimate and explain which approach makes sense based on its condition.

Question 39

What are common signs that siding needs attention?

Accepted Answer

Common signs that siding needs attention include cracks, loose or missing sections, warping, rot, visible moisture damage, gaps around seams, or siding that is pulling away from the home. Hail and strong winds can also damage siding, so it may be worth having the exterior inspected after a significant storm even when the damage is not obvious from the ground.

Question 40

Can damaged siding be matched to my existing siding?

Accepted Answer

In some cases, damaged siding can be matched closely to the existing siding. The quality of the match depends on factors such as the siding’s age, manufacturer, profile, color, and whether the original product is still available. Even when the same product can be found, existing siding may have faded or weathered over time, so an exact visual match is not always possible. ARC Builds KC will explain the available options before the repair is completed.

Question 41

What siding options are available?

Accepted Answer

ARC Builds KC works with a variety of siding options, with LP SmartSide and James Hardie among the most commonly used. The right siding depends on your home, the look you want, maintenance preferences, durability, and budget. During the onsite estimate, we’ll evaluate your existing exterior and discuss the siding options that make sense for your home and project goals.

Question 42

How long does siding replacement take?

Accepted Answer

The timeline for siding replacement depends on the size and design of the home, how much siding is being replaced, the condition of the underlying structure, material availability, and weather conditions. Once ARC Builds KC has evaluated the exterior and defined the project scope, we’ll provide a clearer timeline for the work.

Question 43

How do I know when my home's exterior needs to be repainted?

Accepted Answer

Common signs that your home’s exterior may need to be repainted include peeling or cracking paint, fading, chalking, exposed or weathered surfaces, and areas where the existing coating is failing. Repainting before those problems allow the underlying materials to deteriorate can help protect the exterior of your home as well as improve its appearance.

Question 44

What preparation happens before exterior painting?

Accepted Answer

Exterior painting preparation may include cleaning the surfaces, removing loose or failing paint, sanding, caulking gaps, making minor surface repairs, and priming areas as needed before the finish coats are applied. The exact preparation depends on the condition and type of surface being painted, and proper prep helps the new paint adhere and perform as intended.

Question 45

What is the best time of year to paint a house in Kansas City?

Accepted Answer

The best time for exterior painting in Kansas City is when temperatures and weather conditions are within the paint manufacturer’s recommended range and the surfaces can remain dry. Moderate temperatures and dry weather are generally better than extreme heat, cold, or wet conditions, so the actual forecast and product requirements matter more than choosing one specific month or season.

Question 46

How long does exterior painting take?

Accepted Answer

The timeline for exterior painting depends on the size and design of the home, the condition of the existing surfaces, the amount of preparation required, the areas being painted, weather conditions, and the number of coats needed. Once ARC Builds KC has evaluated the exterior and defined the project scope, we’ll provide a clearer timeline for the work.

Question 47

How do you protect the rest of my property while painting?

Accepted Answer

Before exterior painting begins, ARC Builds KC protects areas that are not being painted, including landscaping, windows, doors, patios, fixtures, and other nearby surfaces as needed. We take care during preparation and painting to protect the surrounding property and clean up the work area when the project is finished.

Question 48

What kind of paint does ARC Builds KC use for exterior painting?

Accepted Answer

ARC Builds KC uses Sherwin-Williams paint for exterior painting projects because of its quality and durability. The specific paint and product used will depend on the surface being painted, its condition, and the requirements of the project.
